This joint program of the Association of American University Women, Madison Branch and the League of Women Voters of the Morristown Area features panelists Nancy Hedinger, President of the League of Women Voters of the Morristown Area; Chris Schorr, Chair of Friends of Madison Shade Trees and Board member of Friends of the Drew Forest; and Clair Whitcomb, author, editor, environmental advocate and Chair of Madison’s Environmental Commission.
Nancy Hedinger will speak on what the League of Women Voters is doing at the state and national levels to help fight climate change.
Chris Schorr will speak on the irreplaceable value of canopy shade trees, individually and in woodlands and forests. Claire Whitcomb will talk about the climate impact of the built environment making up two-thirds of Madison’s carbon footprint. Due to aging building stock, energy efficiency is needed to plug the leaks. Equally important is a switch to 100% electrification—because of the impact of methane, 25 times more potent than CO2, natural gas is considered worse for the climate than coal.
