Ella Filippone, co-founder of the Passaic River Coalition, was remembered on Saturday with fondness at Willow Hall, a Morristown landmark that she helped preserve.
Some 200 people, including Mayor Tim Dougherty and Dodge Foundation President Chris Daggett, came to pay their respects to Ella, according to the Daily Record. The environmentalist died in June. She was 78.
John Veterie Jr., chairman of the Passaic River Coalition Land Trust, told the paper:
It’s a huge void. There’s no filling her shoes. With her depth of knowledge and her contacts, and her ability to disseminate information and get it out to the public, there’s no replacing that. We can only try.
